Bifold doors are a fantastic alternative to traditional French, glass, solid oak, and sliding closet doors. When compared to an old door, they’re becoming increasingly popular closet doors because of their elegant look and space-saving efficiency. An internal bifold door is made up of several leaves that fold back on themselves to open up a large opening. The doors are mounted on runners and, when opened, slide and fold simultaneously for a smooth operation. This means you won’t need as much space for the closet door to swing open as you would with traditional hinged door hardware.
INSTALLATION PROCESS
The first step is to apply masking tape to your laminate flooring around the area where the doors will be installed. While drilling the holes for the bracket, this will safeguard your laminate flooring.
After the tape is in place, place the lower bracket close to the door jamb in the middle. Make a hole for the screw using your pencil. This is the hole that will hold your floor in place.
Drill a hole where your pencil mark is with the smaller drill bit. You’ll need to drill a hole about an inch wide that goes through the laminate and into the sub floor. The next step is to drill a second hole.
Place pivot plates on the top and bottom of the right and left doors, respectively. The pivot plates are the pins that stick out of the bifold door and into the door track to keep it on track. When you open and close the door, the pins slide along the track. The manufacturer’s instructions will assist you determine where the pivot plates should be installed so that the door glides open and closed smoothly.
Check to see if it’s all the way in. If the pins don’t go all the way in, a light tap with a hammer is recommended. There should be one final pin that is meta and has ridges on it. This pin should be placed on the same side as the last one.
