And how will it impact overall sales? These are questions we’ll try to answer in our latest post.
We begin with Hero Motorcorp Ltd, India’s largest two wheeler manufacturer. In a statement released after the budget was announced last week,
Pawan Munjal, MD & CEO of Hero MotoCorp said We welcome any step towards rationalization of taxes on 2 wheelers.
He added The proposed hike in basic customs duty on completely built units (CBUs) is an incentive for OEMs to manufacture locally.
This statement confirms that prices of high-capacity motorcycles such as
Splendor Plus and Passion Pro could go up further than expected. We’ve listed down some key points below

Hero bikes
Hero super splendor is on fire. The first quarter results have been nothing short of spectacular for Hero Honda Motor Company Ltd (HHL).
The company has clocked an excellent growth of 48 per cent year-on-year to touch a record high net sales of Rs 1,130 crore.
This number not only includes 50 per cent sales from exports, but also has gained on account of flat growth in scooters segment at home.
Within motorcycles as well, there has been strong double-digit growth for us, said Mr Munjal.
Hence Hero bikes are now more desirable. Scooters are being bought more by people who do not want to sit on two
wheels and want a bigger bike but with all comforts at a cheaper price which makes Hero bikes worth buying.
But it does make me wonder why these companies are so protective about their brands?
They say that if we buy a bike outside their brand then they will stop supplying parts for that vehicle.
But what about those of us who already own these bikes? Are we supposed to keep using them until they break down completely?
Surely, we cannot be penalized because we were unable to change our purchasing decision when we bought our original vehicle.
If anything, I would think that they should be happy that their reputation has spread far enough that more people want their product than before. But no such luck!
All Hero Bike Price in India
Hero MotoCorp has announced a hike of up to Rs 6,000 for its Splendor Pro and Passion Pro motorcycles.
The new price will be effective from April 1. On an average,
it has increased prices by Rs 3,000 across models (ex-showroom). Hero maestro edge is also witnessing a similar hike on prices.
All models will now cost up to Rs 4,000 more than what they used to earlier.
The company is attributing these hikes to increase in raw material costs (such as steel and plastics) as well as unfavourable currency rates which have impacted production costs directly or indirectly.
With inflation running high, companies are taking advantage of their pricing power to pass on some part of their cost increases to consumers.
Earlier, Honda had announced that it would hike prices for bikes in India by 2 percent starting in April.
Yamaha too had increased prices last month citing higher input costs and a fall in the rupee against the US dollar.
The Indian market leader has over 50 percent share in the domestic two-wheeler market,
while Honda is at second place with around 18 percent market share,
followed by TVS Motors with around 10 percent share in domestic two-wheeler sales. In 2013-24 fiscal year ended March 31, 2024,
Hero MotoCorp posted a net profit of Rs 972 crore compared with Rs 528 crore in the previous fiscal year 2021-22.
