Does your work need you to stand for all day long? Do you need to walk a lot during your work? If both the answers are yes, you need good walking shoes or something comfortable. Wearing high heels all day long can be risky for the feet and it can strain the muscles. It is stressful for the nerves and the spines. Let’s talk about the best shoes for women.

    The basics

    • Though this is not easy to find a perfect pair of shoes for women at work, still, there are a few styles for them to walk and stand comfortably for the entire day.
    • The best work shoes must have space in the toe box to prevent squishing of the front part and the shoes must be low-heeled.
    • Stylish flats are go-to’s for the workplace.
    • The shoes with firm support at the bottom would make a huge difference when it is for work.

Why the High Heels Hurt Feet?

High heels are all about the structure. High heels affect the feet because the elevation of the heels put the body weight forward. It keeps high pressure on the balls of the feet and the toes. Yet after being a prime cause of feet and back pain, high heels are popular choices for fashion.

Walking in high heels is very much harmful as it keeps the body in unnatural alignment. The body and the feet will start to compensate for the natural gait, and may cause –

    • Ankle instability
    • Toe weakness
    • Achillesis tendon
    • Tightness in the calf muscle

If you have to wear high heels, wear them in moderation, therefore, reduce the total time of wearing such heels.

    Our Advice

    • Wear sneakers or other comfortable shoes while commuting or traveling, wear the high heels at the required place only.
    • Try not to wear heels every day.
    • Try to customize the heels if possible and add a rubber sole underneath to prevent slipping, and more comfort.

    Wearing high heels every day

Try to wear high heels on special occasions only, otherwise, your feet will be a serious condition. If you feel persistent pain after wearing the high heels, move to the flats or sneakers. For giving your feet relief from severe pain, you can do the following –

    • Stretching – Wearing high heels can shorten the calf muscles and Achilles tendon. Stretch the both to keep them in shape.
    • Range-of-motion exercise – Try to rotate the move in clockwise and anti-clockwise.
    • Epsomam salt – Soak the feet in warm water and Epsom salt. It will relax the muscles and relieve pain.

    Choosing the right heel

You probably heard of the consequences of high heels and wearing them for a longer time. When your workplace needs you to wear high heels, you can try the following –

    • Two inches or lower – The lower the heel, the less stress on the feet
    • A wide toe box – Avoid pointy-toed heels as they add pressure on the foot

    Avoid the following –

    • High and pointy stilletoes – Such heels are narrow around the toes as they can cramp the muscles. The height will put pressure on the foot.
    • Peep-toe heel – heels with a small opening in the shoe front and can cause ingrown nails.

    Are Flats Better than Heels?

Wearing flats or high heels is a personal preference. If you want to keep the feet comfortable and healthy, flats are always a better option than heels. The flat heels distribute the weight evenly over the foot. Flats with thick soles, have shock absorption quality and good arch support.

The flat shoes can get better support by –

    • Durable leather – Sole is one of the most important parts of a flat shoe, the shoe needs supportive parts for the sides of the feet. A strong leather will keep the foot protected.
    • Rubber sole – Like the heels, the flat shoes should have a rubber sole to provide extra cushion and prevent slip and fall.
    • Insole in the shoe – Adding insole to the flat shoes will give more arch support to the shoes and the shoes will have more strength at the end of the day.

For formal wear, you will find formal flat shoes. You can pair it up with formal trousers, skirts and anything else at the office.
